I have such mixed emotions about the upcoming Star Trek prequel film:

Yes, it looks exciting, but it doesn’t look like Star Trek. Yes, I like J.J. Abrams sometimes, but the man cannot end things, and he’s on record as not liking Star Trek in the first place. (I think I read somewhere that he took this gig because he though it would be foolish to pass it up.) Of course I’ll go see it. But I’m not expecting it to be any good.

I am a huge Star Trek fan, as my dad and I used to watch the original series (on re-runs) everynight when he got home from work. I have liked some of the movies, but coincidentally, only the even numbered ones, II, IV, and VI.

I think this has potential to be good, but I will say I am not thrilled about the sex scenes – not because I don’t like sex scenes, but I think the whole idea of having a sex scene in a Star Trek film does not pay proper respect to the original series. It is well known that Captain Kirk was a ladies man…but it was never a huge part of the series, and definitely never blatantly shown. I think it just isn’t very Star-Trek-y if there a sex scene in it.

Denise, believe it or not, I agree with you. There’s always been plenty of romance in Star Trek, but sex scenes? That’s crazy? When I watched this video I said to Kris, “There’s no sex in Star Trek!”

    I thought the same thing!!!

See, I am a true sci-fi geek…and I am very glad that I am not the only one that feels this way.

And to add insult to injury, it’s Uhura with whom Kirk’s knocking boots. Tsk, tsk, tsk.
